Sail on.
Titles song: Sail on by the Commodores
Station wagon packed up, the car winds down the highway of the Columbia Gorge towards Eastern Washington, Kevin watches out the back seat window as the landscape changes from lush green to barren brown desert.
In the new town, which is much larger, decides to continue to reinvent his identity.
It’s Kevin’s senior year, but when he walks into new high school, he’s triggered again, overwhelmed by the size, new people and situation. He walks down the hallway and out the door on the other side, drives away.
His parents convince him to go talk to a community college counselor that takes him under his wing and allows him to graduate if Kevin just completes one semester of classes at the college. It’s a dream deal for Kevin, no required classes, so he just signs up for theater, music and art.
Sets up a creative studio in the large old half-empty church where his dad is the new pastor, complete with a piano, floor space and a turntable where Kevin listens to vintage records bought at local Goodwill. Hangs out by himself here at night, dances, draws, plays the Steinway baby grand in the sanctuary, sings and daydreams.
Befriends theater people, eccentric, flamboyant, gay Craig and very overweight, funny, talented Marcy. They draw him out of his shell and invite to local fun theater and underground gay parties.
Closing song: Sail on by First Aid Kit
